TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — A group of property-owners is kicking its anti-casino efforts into high gear by asking a judge to halt the construction of a new facility in Taunton.

If successful, the move would force the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe to put the First Light Resort & Casino project on hold until the lawsuit is resolved. The proceedings could take years, according to documents obtained by Eyewitness News.

The tribe broke ground on the 150-acre complex last month.

The finished casino is set to boast 3,000 slot machines, table games, a 15-story hotel and eventually a water park.

It is set to open next summer.
