PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) –The Rhode Island Department of Heath has issued a warning to residents about a recall by General Mills.
According to RIDOH, the company is recalling certain Gold Medal flour, Wondra flour and Signature Kitchens flour as part of an investigation into an E. coli outbreak affecting several states.
To date, authorities have researched 38 cases of illnesses in 20 states related to a specific type of E. coli between December and May.
RIDOH reports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that about half of the people who reported getting sick also said they made something with flour before becoming ill. Some reported using a General Mills brand of flour, health officials said.
So far, E. coli has not been found in any General Mills flour products or in the facility which manufactures the products.
