PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Hostess has recalled a number of its snack cake and donut products because they may contain peanut residue not included in the ingredient list, Stop & Shop announced Monday.

The company said the products are safe for most to consume, but those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of a serious allergic reaction.

Consumers who purchased the products should discard any unused portions and bring their receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.

According to the FDA, symptoms of food allergies typically appear within a few minutes to two hours and can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.

Call Hostess at 800-686-2813 or Stop & Shop Customer Service at 800-767-7772 for more information.
