PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Members of the Rhode Island state police arrested two people in Providence early Monday morning on drug charges.
According to state police, troopers stopped a silver SUV just before 1 a.m. on Broad Street after learning the car was not registered.
Troopers discovered the driver, Cristian Narvaez, 31, was operating on a suspended Massachusetts drivers’ license.
During a sweep of the car, troopers located several ounces of suspected heroin, as well as packaging materials. Police also found more than an ounce of heroin and a cutting tool in the female passenger’s purse. According to police, approximately 10 ounces of heroin total were seized during the stop.
Narvaez, of Providence, and his passenger, 33-year-old Yanira V. Paez, of Pawtucket, were both taken into custody and arrested on drug charges.
Narvaez was charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver (over one ounce to one kilogram), operating on a suspended license and conspiracy.
Paez was charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver (over one ounce to one kilogram) and conspiracy.
Both Narvaez and Paez were arraigned in Sixth District Court and ordered held without bail. The pair is due back in court June 20.
