NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are investigating a man shot Monday night about 11:00 p.m. on Division Street in New Bedford.
Officers were alerted by the city’s “ShotSpotter” system that listens for gunshots in concentrated areas. People also called 911 to report the gunfire.
When officers arrived at the area, they found four shell casings on the street, New Bedford Police Det. Capt. Steven Vicente said. A blood trail then led them up to a second floor apartment.
The victim, a 28-year-old man, was inside his home suffering from a gunshot wound to his hip. Police gave him first aid and called paramedics, who then took him to Rhode Island Hospital. His injuries are considered not life-threatening.
