PROVIDENCE, R.I.  (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Health released new data Tuesday on accidental drug overdose deaths across the state.

The data shows a month-by-month breakdown of overdose deaths dating back four years. However, officials said the most recent six months are not fully confirmed since it can take several months to determine if a death was from an overdose.

According to the current data, there were 258 deaths in Rhode Island last year because of accidental overdoses.

Last February saw the highest number of recorded deaths, with 33.

In the first five months of this year, the numbers show there have been 83 accidental overdose deaths, with the most also coming in February.

The data also revealed that those dying from overdoses are predominantly male.
