Two Providence middle school students accused of sexual assault

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Providence police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that occurred in the bathroom at Gilbert Stuart Middle School last week.

Laura Hart, a spokesperson for the Providence School Department, said the incident involved two middle school students allegedly assaulting another student and occurred last Thursday.

According to police, the boys lured the girl into a bathroom, trapped her and took turns groping her.

Hart said school administrators found out and called police. The suspects were also suspended from school.

“The Providence Public School District takes any allegation of sexual abuse or misconduct very seriously,” Hart said in a statement. “In any case where sexual assault of a student is reported, Providence Public Schools works with the police to ensure that the student is referred to the appropriate medical and counseling services. The school also offers the student the services of its staff social worker and school psychologist.”

The Providence Journal reported that two 13-year-old boys turned themselves in to Providence police Monday.

They were charged with first-degree sexual assault and are currently being held at the Rhode Island Training School, a juvenile detention center in Cranston.
