CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Members of the Cranston Police Department are investigating after a city bank was reportedly robbed Friday.

According to police, the robbery occurred around 11:15 a.m. at the Citizen’s Bank branch located at 56 Rolfe Square.

Bank employees told police the suspect was a white male, approximately 6’0″ with a thin build. He reportedly entered the building wearing dark clothing, a green beanie hat and a surgical mask over his face.

Police said the suspect handed a note to a teller and demanded cash.  After receiving the money, the suspect left the bank on foot.

No injuries were reported and police said the man did not show a weapon.

Police said they briefly detained a man on Orchard Street but determined he was not the suspect.

“A clothing description matched this person that one of our officers spotted shortly after the robbery,” said Detective Commander Karen Guilbeault of Cranston police. “We investigated and we determined that at this time he is not a suspect.”
