More sunflower kernel-containing products recalled

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Health is warning residents about a recall involving Bounce USA and Post Consumer Brands sunflower kernel-containing products that are being recalled for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Bounce USA is recalling their Bounce Apple Cinnamon Protein Punch Energy Balls and Post Consumer Brands is recalling a certain amount of its Great Grains Protein Blend – Honey, Oats, & Seeds cereal.

SunOpta, the sunflower kernel supplier, notified Bounce USA and Post Consumer Brands after receiving the information that some kernels may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Customers who have purchased any of these products are urged to dispose of them.

To date, no illnesses have been reported.
