NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A 17-year-old New Bedford High School student was placed under arrest Friday after police said he brought several shotgun shells and marijuana to school.
According to police, the teen’s mother was notified of his arrest and she gave officers permission to search his bedroom at their home.
As a result, officers located 17 more shotgun shells and five .22 caliber rounds of ammunition. A dismantled sawed-off shotgun was also located in the boy’s closet.
Police said the teen shares a room with his 14-year-old brother and there is no evident suggesting he planned to bring the weapon to school.
The teen was arraigned in juvenile court on various firearms charges, police said.
