UPDATE: Tiverton PD identify victim, suspect

TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Two elderly men are dead after a pair of shootings Monday night in Tiverton, police confirmed to Eyewitness News.

Police said they chased down and shot a suspect after he allegedly shot another man in a cemetery.

Both men died from their injuries, according to police.

Residents of Ford Farm Road said they witnessed the officer-involved shooting.

“I looked out the window and this car went by, 85, 90 miles an hour, which is totally unusual for here and right after that, five Tiverton police cars,” Anthony Ward recalled. “Within two minutes I heard ‘boom, boom, boom, boom’ and my wife said, ‘oh that’s fireworks,’ and I said, ‘I don’t think so, I think it’s gunshots.”

Officials declined to comment on a motive for the shooting or a relationship between the two men, who have not been identified.
