Movies in the Park returns, kicking off with ‘Happy Feet’

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Once again, movie fans of all ages will be taking to the lawn of Rocky Point Park for evenings of entertainment.

Starting this Friday, June 17, Movies in the Park returns to Rocky Point in Warwick for three free movie events under the stars, on the grass of the former amusement park midway. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs.

This year, the movies scheduled are “Happy Feet” (June 17), “Minions” (Thursday, July 14) and the 80’s Steven Spielberg classic “E.T.” (Thursday, July 28).

Park gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the projector rolls at dusk, weather permitting.

Food trucks are also being invited to each of the nights, but no alcohol is permitted. Organizers ask moviegoers to pack out their trash and take it with them. Pets are discouraged, due to the nature of the busy event; but if you do choose to bring them, they must be on a leash at all times.

The Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce organizes the event. WPRI 12 and Fox Providence are proud media sponsors of the event.
