Task force seizes heroin, cash, gun in Woonsocket bust

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Woonsocket man was arrested on firearm and heroin distribution charges Thursday.

Col. Steven G. O’ Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Pubic Safety, announced the arrest of Neftaly Pena, 34, of 75 Village Rd., Apartment #8, Woonsocket.

Members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Task Force searched Pena’s apartment Thursday and, according to police , seized 20 grams of heroin, a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine and silencer, a box of ammunition, $4,850 in United States currency, and packaging materials associated with the distribution of narcotic sales.

Police said Pena faces four different charges and was arraigned in Providence District Court. He was also presented as a Superior Court violator after being convicted in May of 2008 on two counts of first-degree robbery.

Pena was ordered held without bail.

The HIDTA Task Force is managed by the Rhode Island State Police and comprised of members from several different police departments across the state.
