URI locks Dan Doyle out of Institute for International Sport

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The University of Rhode Island has locked Dan Doyle out of the Institute for International Sport.

URI said Wednesday that it changed the locks on the building at its Kingston campus.

The university says Doyle’s failure to pay his water bill for two years left the Institute’s sprinkler system inoperable and a safety hazard.

An attorney for Doyle said they don’t believe URI has the authority to do what they did and that they’re working to get utilities restored as soon as possible.

Doyle is months away from a trial on 18 charges ranging from embezzlement to forgery. A 2013 indictment accused him of misusing money from the Institute.

Doyle denies all charges of wrongdoing.
