Family escapes house fire in West Warwick

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A West Warwick family escaped to safety after a fire broke out at their home Friday morning.

According to fire officials, the flames started in the basement of the Cochran Street home at about 6:30 a.m.

Two adults and two children got out of the house in time, and the mother was able two rescue their two guinea pigs.

Crews had the fire knocked down by 7:15 a.m.

The family will be staying with relatives for the time being.

The cause remains under investigation.
