SMITHFIELD, R.I (WPRI) — An arrest that took place in the parking lot of a Burger King on Thursday turned out to be part of a larger investigation into a cocaine distribution operation.
Smithfield police said they arrested Amaury Fernandez outside the Burger King on Putnam Pike around 5:20 p.m.
Detectives had been investigating Fernandez prior to the arrest. A North Smithfield police narcotics dog assisted throughout the investigation and arrest.
Fernandez, 28, was found in possession of approximately 33 grams of cocaine separated into ten bags, according to police. He will be charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, and possession of cocaine between one once and one kilogram.
Fernandez will be held without bail until a bail hearing Monday in Kent County District Court.
