HEALTH recommends closing 3 RI beaches to swimming

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is recommending the closure of Spouting Rock Beach in Newport, Easton’s Beach in Newport, and Mackeral Cove Beach in Jamestown for swimming due to high bacteria counts.

Officials will continue to monitor water quality and will recommend reopening the beaches when the water is deemed safe for swimming.

Conimicut Point and Oakland Beach, both in Warwick, remain closed.

The most up to date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beaches telephone line (401-222-2751) and online.
