Cranston police arrest man on child molestation charges

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Cranston police have arrested a city man on first-degree child molestation charges, Colonel Michael Winquist announced Friday.

According to police, Robert P. Barboza, 46, of Park Avenue, was taken into custody Friday after being located in Providence. Members of the Providence Police Department assisted in the arrest.

Police said detectives from Cranston’s Special Victims Unit conducted an investigation into Barboza after it was reported that he sexually assaulted a 10-year-old who was known to him. Detectives interviewed the victim, according to police, and the abuse was reported to the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families.

Barboza is currently being held for arraignment before a Justice of the Peace, police said.
