Police seize gun, drugs from Providence home

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Members of the Providence Police Department arrested a city man Thursday on gun and drug charges.

According to police, Justin Ayala, 20, of Hillhurst Avenue, was taken into custody after narcotics detectives executed a warrant at his home as a result of an extensive illegal drug investigation.

Police said a black rifle case with a .22 caliber Smith and Wesson Rifle Model M&P 15-22 was found, as well as a magazine loaded with .22 caliber rounds. Detectives also located a digital scale with suspected marijuana residue and two large, clear bags of what appeared to marijuana.

Detectives also located a box of sandwich bags and four boxes of .22 long rifle rounds.

Ayala was charged with intent to deliver marijuana and possession of a firearm while in possession with intent to deliver marijuana.

He was held in custody for the next session of Sixth District Court, police said.
