PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) — Right now in Rhode Island, there are about 150,000 vehicles on the road with open recalls.
This translates to every 1 in 5 cars on the road in the state. Many people don’t even realize there are open recalls on their vehicles right now.
Last week, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration issued an urgent warning to owners of older model Hondas and Acuras, advising them to get their airbags fixed right away. Dozens of other recalls don’t receive as much attention.
Chris Basso, a spokesperson for Carfax, told us that they “come across a number of people who had no idea that there were recalls on their vehicles until they used the myCARFAX.com app.”
The app is free and allows you to search for recall information using your vin number or your license plate. It also has the ability to alert users if a recall is ever issued on their car in the future.
When you have the app, “you don’t have to worry about getting a notice in the mail,” said Basso. “It puts the info about recalls on your vehicles right at your fingertips so you can take the next all important step of taking action on that car, bringing it into the dealership to get that recall fixed,” he added.
Automakers also offer recall information and search function on their websites as well.
