EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — If you haven’t made plans for the summer — and not everyone has — a new TV show from the team behind The Rhode Show is required viewing starting tonight on Fox Providence.
The Rhode Show Summer Stars is celebrating the great things that make Rhode Island special in the summer and that everyone can enjoy. The special series runs Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. on Fox Providence tonight through the end of August.
The premiere episode tonight focuses on “al fresco” dining — dinner on the deck, the balcony, or on the beach. Michaela Johnson, Will Gilbert and Brendan Kirby are touring the Ocean State to show off famous local favorites — and out-of-the-way gems of restaurants.
Another episode in the works will look at the state’s many beaches, what makes them different, and what everyone loves about them; summer outdoor grilling and boating are also on tap.
Eating, playing and exploring your way across 32 cities and towns — while still putting on a local talk show five mornings a week — is a challenge for the team, but Will Gilbert said Thursday morning: frankly, it’s a blast. “They tell us we can go out to some of these great restaurants we have here in Rhode Island, have some of the best food around the we can eat in Rhode Island — why not go?… This is a great gig!”
