Raimondo lowers flags in honor of slain Dallas officers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Gina Raimondo has ordered all U.S. and Rhode Island flags to be flown at half-staff at all state facilities and buildings in honor of the slain police officers and other victims in Dallas.

The attack on the officers began Thursday at a downtown Dallas protest over the recent killings by police of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Five officers were killed and seven others were wounded. Two civilians were also wounded.

Raimondo’s order on Friday follows a similar federal proclamation by President Barack Obama.

The Democratic governor’s order directs the flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday.

Raimondo says, “Enough violence. Enough hate. Enough tragedies.”

She says it’s a time for healing, peacefulness and unity.

Raimondo asked residents to lower their flags too.
