Warwick police officer recovering after being struck by a car

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Warwick police officer is recovering after being hit by a car Sunday night.

It happened around 9 p.m.. on Warwick Avenue near Sandy Lane, according to police. The officer had been directing traffic from another incident when he was struck.

He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver who hit him has been identified as Thomas Horne.

Horne, 64, of Warwick, was arrested and charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police said Horne was also arrested on a DUI charge six years ago.
