CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Central Falls are investigating a stabbing.
State and local police were both on scene where two people were the victims of an assault and attempted robbery by a crowd of 5 to 7 people. They both suffered stab wounds and were taken to the hospital but the wounds are not suspected to be life-threatening.
Marvin Chevez, 19, is one of the stab victims along with his 17-year-old friend. He explained that the pair was eating outside just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday night at the corner of Pine and Mowry Streets when they were approached by a group of people.
“Then they wanted me to take out my cell phone and my wallet. When I told them no, and what were they thinking, that’s when they hit me and they started to hit us and we defended ourselves,” he said.
The group left briefly then returned armed with knives, recalled the victim. Chevez said that was the point when a girl from the group–that he knew–attacked him with a knife.
So far one suspect, a juvenile male, was taken into custody and will be arraigned on Friday. He has been charged with two counts of first degree robbery, two counts of felony assault and two counts of conspiracy.
Police say they are pursuing the female suspect, and potentially others.
