Celebrities flock to Pawtucket for Jeffrey Osborne charity softball game

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The 5th Annual Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic softball game got underway Monday night at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket.

Co-hosts Jeffrey Osborne and Earvin “Magic” Johnson once again brought their famous friends to Rhode Island to raise money for local nonprofits through a golf tournament, celebrity softball game, and more.

The game of East vs. West kicked off at 7 p.m.

Eyewitness News Sports Director Yianni Kourakis, Rhode Show Co-Host Michaela Johnson and Eyewitness News Anchor Patrick Little all participated in the event by playing for the East.

West was headlined by starting pitcher Magin Johnson. Other celebrities who took part in the game included Dr. J, Smokey Robinson, Ty Law, Chris Tucker and Providence College Friars head coach Ed Cooley.

In the video below, Yianni talks one-on-one with Magic Johnson – who is a staple at the event every year.

The celebrity classic will continue Tuesday with a golf tournament.

All proceeds from the three-day Jeffrey Osborne events will be donated to local non-profits benefiting the arts and music.
