WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — An iconic Rhode Island restaurant and function hall may soon be closing.
Several brides have called into the Eyewitness Newsroom, telling us the West Valley Inn is canceling their wedding receptions and refunding their money.
We talked to two brides Wednesday who said they were looking forward to their big days at West Valley Inn.
“We’ve heard nothing but good things about the venue, so it seemed like the right choice to book there,” said Amy Lariviere.
“In my budget, the food is always good [there],” said Jaime Della Morte.
Eyewitness News has learned the last event at the venue is scheduled for Sunday, September 18. According to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, take out and family style will be open for business until further notice.
According to listing agent Jeffrey Butler, the property – which has been listed for sale since 2014 – is still on the market. However, he did say there are some “seriously interested parties.”
Butler said he could not comment on what the owners of the West Valley Inn were doing with the business operations.
In the meantime, Lariviere and Della Morte are trying to rebook their weddings elsewhere.
“I thought I would bawl my eyes out over it but, to be honest, I’m still in shock,” Lariviere said.
“Maybe it was meant to be, that’s what I keep thinking,” Della Morte added. “But yes, I had a little breakdown right after I called.”
Della Morte said she just ordered her invitations Tuesday – and they cannot be refunded.
Eyewitness News has reached out to the inn’s owners, but they are not commenting.
Some local venues are reaching out to help those affected by the closing.
