FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A Florida man is recovering after he was assaulted at a hotel in Fall River.
Al Marceau is in Massachusetts visiting family and celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary. At around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, he says he left his room at the Comfort Inn on Airport Road to ask a group who had just returned from a wedding to keep the noise down in the hallway. That’s when Marceau claims six men ganged up on him.
“I was on the ground, and I know they were kicking me in the sides, and kicking me in the head,” Marceau said. “They were kicking me all over, and they were also punching me.”
It was Marceau’s 79th birthday. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries. He has a bloodshot black eye, bruises on his head, cuts on his lips, and a gash on his leg.
Marceau said he was told by police he will also be facing an assault charge after the group who beat him up told investigators he threw the first punch. That’s not the case, according to Marceau, who said he hopes surveillance footage from the hotel will prove that.
