PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Providence took a suspect into custody almost one year after a murder on the city’s East Side, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s office announced Tuesday.
According to the AG’s office, Derrick Watson was arrested and charged with the murder of 38-year-old Kyle Machado.
Police found Machado shot near the intersection of Trenton and Ives Streets back in September of 2015. He was later pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.
Watson, 31, of Providence, was arraigned Tuesday. The AG’s office said a warrant was put out for Watson’s arrest in April after a grand jury handed up a sealed indictment charging him with the murder.
He’s due back in court August 23 for determination of an attorney and again on August 30 for a bail hearing.
The shooting was one of several violent incidents in Providence that weekend. Police also investigated a second shooting and two stabbings, none of which were fatal.
