PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man has been indicted by a grand jury for an incident last November, where he’s accused of getting into an argument with a roommate and kidnapping her 4-year-old and 11-month old daughters.

The grand jury found probable cause to send Irvin Sanchez, 24, to trial. He’s charged with two counts of kidnapping a minor, and one count of extortion/blackmail. The Attorney General’s office announced it Thursday morning.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 11, 2015, police say Sanchez and the girls’ mother got into an argument outside the Walmart on Silver Spring Street in Providence; Sanchez accusing the woman of stealing from him via their apartment. He grabbed the toddler and the baby — still in her car seat — and said the mother would get back her children when his belongings were returned to him.

The girls were abandoned later at a meat market and found safe.

Sanchez was arrested in January at an apartment and new firearms and narcotics charges leveled against him.

Sanchez is due back before a judge in Providence County Superior Court on September 5.
