WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — Attorney General Peter Kilmartin and the Rhode Island Department of Health have signed off on an affiliation between Westerly Hospital and Yale-New Haven Health Services Corporation.

The affiliation is subject to several conditions, which include:
- Participate in interventions to improve the safety of opioid prescribing and expand medication-assisted treatment and services to address the overdose epidemic.
- Submit a plan to address the social and environmental factors within the new hospital’s service area that affect people’s health.
- Ensure access to services for all patients without discrimination, including payment source or ability to pay.
“Westerly Hospital plays a very important role in the community, both in terms of delivering excellent healthcare services and as an economic engine. The affiliation with Yale-New Haven Health Services will ensure the hospital continues to play that role,” Attorney General Kilmartin said in a statement.
