Treasurer sentenced to six months for stealing from charity

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The treasurer of the Rhode Island Association for Cardiac Children (RIACC) will serve time after he stole money from the organization.

Robert Lonardo, 67, of Burrillville, was sentenced to six months in federal prison and serve 100 hours of community service, stated a press release on Wednesday.

Lawyer, Tom Gulick, told Eyewitness News in early June that Lonardo is “accepting responsibility” for embezzling $186,000 from the charity between 2013 and 2015.

Additionally, the judge ordered Lonardo to another two years of supervised release after his prison term.

According to court documents, Lonardo pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud on June 28.
