SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) – Members of the Smithfield Police Department seized dozens of marijuana plants from a home in Smithfield on Tuesday.

According to police, Andrew Wilber, 26, was arrested and charged with unlawful manufacturing of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and distribute a controlled substance near a school.

Police said 54 marijuana plants, butane hash oil, over nine ounces of marijuana, digital scales and packaging materials were taken from the home.

The marijuana growth operation was originally reported by the Smithfield Fire Department, who arrived on the scene after a resident reported a stove fire. Firefighters then notified police.

Officers took Wilber into custody without incident and he was held overnight at the Smithfield police station.

Wilber was arraigned on Wednesday and released on $10,000 bail, police said. He is scheduled to appear in court again in November.
