Search for boaters missing from Point Judith

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — Authorities are searching for a missing mother and son after they did not return from a fishing trip near Block Island last night.

The U.S. Coast Guard of the Southeastern New England sector said Monday morning that Linda Carmen, 54, and Nathan Carmen, 22, had departed from Ram’s Point Marina in Point Judith in a 32-foot aluminum center console boat. But by 6:30 p.m. Sunday they had still not arrived home.

Crews at Air Station Cape Cod deployed an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, an HC-144 fixed wing aircraft, and Station Point Judith launched a 45-foot rescue boat.

As of Monday morning, the Coast Guard was continuing the search with the cutter Bonito and aircraft. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Managment is also searching for the boaters.
