Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt calling it quits

(WPRI/AP) — After two years of marriage and more than a decade together, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt are splitting up.

According to The Associated Press, an attorney for Jolie Pitt, Robert Offer, said Tuesday that she has filed for the dissolution of the marriage. Offer said the decision was made “for the health of the family.”

Jolie Pitt cited “irreconcilable difference” in court documents filed Monday.

The couple got married in 2014 but have been linked since 2004 when the two co-starred in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” together. The beginning of their relationship was controversial, as Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston at the time. Aniston and Pitt Divorced in 2005.

Pitt and Jolie are the parents of six children – Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Vivienne, and Knox.

Brad Pitt has released a statement on his divorce filing from Angelina Jolie Pitt, pleading with the press to stay away from his children.

“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time,” Pitt said in a statement to People magazine.
