FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — It appears the quarterback situation in Foxboro is beginning to shape up.

Hours before the New England Patriots take on the Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium, reports indicate rookie Jacoby Brissett will make his first career start against the Texans.

That’s according to NFL Network, which also reports Jimmy Garoppolo will dress as Brissett’s backup.

It comes four days after Garoppolo suffered a reported sprain to the AC joint in his right throwing shoulder during the team’s home opener against Miami.

Brissett, the Patriots third-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, came into that game to hold on for the win.

However, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN, who cites a source, the Patriots are not expected to have Garoppolo in uniform for tonight’s game.

The team Wednesday listed Garoppolo as doubtful.

Thursday night’s game will be the third game missed by Tom Brady, who is serving a four-game suspension in connection with Deflategate.

In the meantime, tight end Rob Gronkowski is expected to be active after missing the first two games with a hamstring injury, according to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter.

The Game’s on 12: Be sure to watch the Patriots take on the Texans tonight on WPRI 12. Eyewitness News will provide pre- and post- game coverage from Foxboro on all newscasts and online throughout the day.
