PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — The RIDOT is looking to put a delayed demolition into action.
Officials are asking companies for bids to demolish of the Sakonnet River Bridge.
The bids will be open for a month and then contractors are expected to begin work in December of this year.
Demolition will be two phases: first, all the sleet components above the water will be removed, then once all necessary environmental permits are approved, the pieces down under the water will be teared down.
In the past, the project was stalled over concerns for the safety of turtles in the area.
