PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) – Portsmouth firefighters were “amazed” to find that the driver of a car that slammed into a tree Saturday morning walked away from it with no serious injuries.

According to the fire department, the crash happened Saturday morning on Route 24. When firefighters got to the scene of the crash, they found a Honda Accord almost literally wrapped around a tree by the side of the road.

Incredibly, the female driver had gotten out of the car on her own and was up and about under her own power.

She told her would-be rescuers that rainy conditions caused the car to slide off the road and into the tree.

She was taken to Newport Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The fire department posted several photos of the wreck to its Facebook page.
