COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) – Coventry police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 42 year-old man Sunday morning.
According to police, the crash happened just a few minutes after midnight Sunday morning in the area of 266 Hopkins Hollow Road. A caller told police that a vehicle had driven off the road and into the woods, and that caller could not see or hear anybody around the overturned vehicle.
Firefighters extricated the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, and took him to Kent Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said late Sunday morning that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash, but investigators suspect the driver might have been speeding.
The name of the victim is being withheld while police notify family members.
