Grand jury indicts man in daughter’s murder

New Bedford murder suspect Walter DaSilva

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A man accused of killing his own daughter over the summer has been indicted by a Bristol County grand jury, the office of District Attorney Thomas Quinn announced Monday.

The indictment charges Walter DaSilva in Superior Court with the murder of 19-year-old Sabrina DaSilva in New Bedford.

Sabrina DaSilva was shot nine times outside her Bedford Street apartment on July 3. She was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors allege her father pulled the trigger, having been upset with Sabrina because she was dating an older man.

DaSilva, formerly of Danbury, Conn., was arrested last month by U.S. Marshals in Bridgeport on a probation warrant. He was later charged with killing Sabrina.

DaSilva has been held without bail since his initial arraignment last month. A new arraignment date has been set.

The murder remains under investigation.
