Police hunting for masked robbery suspect in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are actively searching for at least one suspect after a New Bedford convenience store was held up Monday morning.

According to city police, the Dairy Mart at 4443 Acushnet Ave. was robbed at about 10 a.m. by a man in a mask.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, standing about 5-foot-6 and wearing a white hooded sweatshirt. Police said he showed a handgun during the robbery and made off with cash and cigarettes.

No injuries were reported.

Detectives were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle, which has since been towed to the police station for processing.

Officers from neighboring departments are assisting with the search and Massachusetts State Police have contributed troopers and a helicopter.
