Trailer released for Mark Walhberg’s Boston Marathon bombings movie

(WPRI) — People got their first look at the new Mark Walhberg movie, “Patriots Day,” which depicts the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and the five-day investigation/manhunt that followed.

CBS Films released the above trailer Wednesday promoting the film, which is set to hit theaters December 21.

In addition to Wahlberg – who also produced the film – the movie stars John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, and Michelle Monaghan.

It’s based on Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis’ firsthand account of the terror attack – during which three people were killed and more than 260 others were injured – and the eventual manhunt days later for suspects, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with police during the manhunt. His brother, Dzhokhar, was captured and eventually sentenced to death.
