Two teenagers wounded in late-night shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Two teenagers are recovering following a late-night shooting in Providence.

It happened just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Cypress and Camp Streets on the city’s East Side.

“I was at my house. I heard gunshots, so I came over here to check it. I heard a lot of screaming,” recalled eyewitness Tracy Almeida.

Almeida said an 18-year-old man was shot in the head at Billy Taylor Park.

“I ran up and he was laid out on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head,” he said. “So I just started holding, I took my shirt off and put my shirt on his head.”

The man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

A second victim, a juvenile female, went home following the shooting. Police said they tracked her down and had her taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

At last check, police said both victims were in stable condition.

No word if police have any suspects or arrests.
