Man wounded in Providence’s 2nd shooting in 2 nights

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Providence are investigating a second shooting in as many nights.

According to city police, a 20-year-old man was shot once in the face just after 10 p.m. Wednesday on Laban Street.

He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for the wound, which is not considered life-threatening.

Police did not recover a weapon at the scene and said they don’t have any suspects in custody at this time.

Police are also investigating a shooting Tuesday night on the city’s East Side that sent two teenagers to the hospital with injuries.

Some community members attribute the recent spike in crime to the end of summer programs, such as the Midnight Basketball League. A rally will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Billy Taylor Park on Camp Street to address the recent violence.
