Construction begins on 195 pedestrian bridge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Construction has officially begun on a long awaited bridge in Providence.

The pedestrian bridge will pass over the Providence River, connecting the former 195 highway land on both the east and west sides of Providence.

The new bridge uses piers from the old 195 bridge.

Officials say it will help revitalize an area that has long been vacant and fought over.
