CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — For the first time in almost three years, the state Department of Corrections is training new recruits.
The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the DOC in 2014 claiming it discriminated against minority candidates.
DOC Director A.T. Wall put the training academies on hold as a result, but now he says the agency is in dire need of officers.
The need was so great that the Justice Department signed off on the academy even though the litigation is still ongoing.
In the above video, Eyewitness News is given a rare inside look at the grueling training of the 81st Academy Class.
