Gas prices hold steady in RI, up slightly in Mass.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gas prices are holding steady in Rhode Island at an average of $2.24 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

A weekly survey released Monday by AAA Northeast finds gas prices in Rhode Island unchanged from last week and two cents per gallon more than the national average of $2.22.

Prices are seven cents per gallon higher than at this time last year, when the average price was $2.17 per gallon.

Across the border in Massachusetts, the price of a gallon of gasoline in has inched up a penny in the past week.

AAA Northeast reports Monday that self-serve, regular is now selling for an average of $2.14 per gallon.

That’s 8 cents below the national average for the same grade, but 7 cents per gallon higher than the Massachusetts price a year ago.

AAA found self-serve, regular selling for as low as $2.03 and as high as $2.39 per gallon in Massachusetts.
