PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Providence are investigating an incident early Monday that left a woman with a hip injury.

Emergency crews responded just after 1:30 a.m. to the report of a pedestrian struck in the area of Elmwood and Potters Avenues and found the woman lying in the roadway.

Responding officers spoke to the woman but in their incident report said her story was inconsistent and evasive.

According to the report, a friend was picking the woman up when he suddenly drove off and dragged her into the street. The woman told police she was leaning through the window when the driver took off.

Police said the woman refused to let the officers see her phone to identify the friend.

The woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for an abrasion to her left hip.
