(WPRI) – U.S. Senator from Rhode Island Jack Reed will be traveling to Afghanistan, Iraq, Bahrain, and other nations in the Middle East this week.
Senator Reed had already departed on this trip Monday morning.
Senator Reed, the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee, will get a firsthand look at security and political developments in the region, according to a press release from Reed’s office.
He’ll be assessing America’s efforts in these countries, its impact on counter-terrorism, and America’s national security.
According to Reed’s office, the Senator is also scheduled to meet with heads of state, high-ranking foreign leaders, diplomats, American military commanders, civilian personnel, and service members from Rhode Island who are stationed overseas.
This is Reed’s seventeenth trip to Afghanistan and nineteenth trip to Iraq.
