Deliberately burned dog seeks new home

"Maverick" is an American bulldog mix that is seeking a new special home.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A dog that was deliberately burned as a puppy is seeking a special home.

“Maverick” was transported to Animal Rescue Rhode Island from South Carolina 12 months ago.

The 3-year-old American bulldog mix arrived with a brutal history of abuse, malnourishment and abandonment.

His burn wounds on his back left leg and stomach were so severe that flesh and muscle was exposed.

The Animal Rescue Rhode Island staff says Maverick is recovered, healthy, and has the potential to be a wonderful dog.

“Make no mistake: he needs a lot of training and a very understanding owner who’s willing to commit the time required to make him a wonderful citizen in the world,” said Jennifer Gebar, ARRI Shelter Manager.

Anyone interested in adopting him can email or call (401) 783-7606.

ARRI recommends that the initial ideal living situation for Maverick would be an individual or couple with no young children or other dogs.
