PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — An 18-year-old man was seriously hurt Tuesday after somehow getting caught up in the middle of a physical altercation between a West Warwick man and his ex-girlfriend.
Pawtucket police said officers were called to the area of Montgomery and Exchange Streets around noon for a reported stabbing.
When they arrived, they found the teen with a single stab wound to the chest. Police have not released the victim’s name but said he was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
During the course of their investigation, police said officers arrested Jumel Dwyer, 21, of West Warwick.
Investigators said Dwyer was involved in a physical altercation with an ex-girlfriend, which then led to the stabbing. Major Tina Goncalves confirmed the victim is known to the ex-girlfriend.
Police said Dwyer will be charged with domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct in regards to the incident with his ex; and felony assault in connection to the stabbing.
